Ashanti sculpture. The Ashanti are a major ethnic group of the Ashanti Region in Ghana. Prior to European colonization, they developed a large and influential empire in West Africa. This sculpture probably depicts the legend of the Golden Stool, which tells the story of the birth of the Ashanti kingdom.
