New British Jet Interceptor -- The British de Havilland Venom, a new jet interceptor shown in flight here, is being produced of factory assembly lines for the Royal Air Force seven months after the plane's first test flight. The Venom is similar in design to the jet fighter Vampire but has a two-thirds increase in power, provided by the de Havilland Ghost engine of 5,000-lb. static thrust. The engine, in its civil form, is used to power the Comet jet airliner. May 5, 1950. (Photo by AP Wirephoto.
