In this particular charm (which is from Schieble's Faustbuch of 1863), there is, within the individual squares, is a play on various magical, religious and demonic names, relating to the particular capital letter (for example, top left, S repeats Sator and creates Satanas [the Latin name for Satan]). Around the rectangle are four magical words or charms, derived from the Greek and Hebrew tradition. Among these, AGLA is interesting: this is a cabbalistic magical word, said to be derived from the Hebrew Atha gibor leolam Adonai [Thous art mighty for ever, O Lord]. The Tetragrammaton is the Greek name for the four-letter Hebrew name of God, Jehovah.
