Relief showing a royal ship. Dimensions: H. 96 cm (37 13/16 in.). Dynasty: Dynasty 5. Reign: reign of Niuserre-Unis. Date: ca. 2400-2323 B.C.. Fourteen men strain at the oars of a boat, the size of which suggests that it belongs to a royal scene. The oarsmen are led by a coxswain flourishing a baton. Above, an inscription reads "God's Boat." The very low, almost incised edges of the relief point to a date in the second half of the Fifth Dynasty.
