ALEXANDROS OF ANTIOCH. Venus de Milo. this Parian marble statue of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love was discovered in 1820 on the island of Melos in the Aegean. The statue was christened the Venus de Milo by the French, Venus being the equivalent of Aphrodite in the Roman pantheon. Today it is housed in the Louvre, Paris.
