During the Lima campaign, one of the land phases of the War of the Pacific, President Nicol‡s de PiŽrola ordered the installation of cannons on the top of the hill in order to attack the Chilean army from there, at a time when it was believed that the army would advance from the north. However the Chileans did so from the south. This site was called by himself as "Ciudadela PiŽrola" and never went into action, being captured by the Chileans when they occupied the city. Engraving.
