Germany, Cologne, Cologne Cathedral, West Facade, Portal of Mary, Jamb Sculptures. Cologne Cathedral was built was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, under the direction of Archbishop Conrad von Hochstaden. Construction of the present Gothic church began in August 15th, 1248 and completed in 1880. In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO world heritage list of culturally important sites. Seen are jambs sculptures of figures located in the left side of the west facade's main portal from the period of salvation, depicting from left to right: Elijah and Joachim, with canopies.
