Historic image of the 80-inch bubble chamber at Brookhaven National Laboratory. In 1963, it was the largest particle detector of its type in existence. In 1964, the omega-minus particle, previously only theorized but never observed, was detected. The bubble chamber was decommissioned in 1974.
