George Stephenson (1781-1848)

George Stephenson (1781-1848) English mechanical engineer and railway pioneer.  Engineer of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (1825), he made a survey for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway (1824) and was appointed engineer to the line 1826.
