Sculpted bronze head, probably depicting a royal chief, from the ancient Yoruba city of IfÃ¨, Nigeria. The vertical lines represent ritual facial scarification. IfÃ¨ was a major artistic center, and ancient bronzes such as these are known worldwide. This piece probably dates from somewhere between 1200 and 1400 AD.
