Brayton's Improved Breech-loading Cannon 1883

Military cannon that could be loaded from the rear was a major advancement. It meant soldiers could load the gun without having to step in front of the barrel and be open to enemy fire or even a misfire from their own artillery. This mechanism is a new step in the safety and effectiveness of a rear loading weapon.
