Valley-fill, Qaidam Basin, China

A cross-section of the veneer of valley-fill sediments in the Qaidam Basin shows several cycles of deposition. The upper half is a sequence of braided river deposits of sands, gravels and silts: the lower part appears to be a debris flow probably deposited by floods from the Kunlun Mountains. Near Golmud, Qinghai Province, China.
