The rear end of the balance reaches the rear deck, where it can be pulled down with a number of ropes, if the ropes are released, the front piece will fall down by its own weight and break the ice. This can also be done with the capstans, but these were used most for locomotion, the icebreaker was also hunted by horses or manpower. A hunting mast has been placed against the advance of the bucket, with a race ring to the top. At the stern of the praam is a rudder, Noordhollandsch Kanaal, anonymous, Netherlands, c. 1750 - c. 1807, wood (plant material), brass (alloy), rope, h 39.5 cm × w 99 cm × d 49 cm.
