Tomb of Abelard and Héloïse, Eugène Atget

Over 1 million people are buried in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, but the first residents were the famous lovers, Abelard and Héloïse. In 1817, their remains were transferred there and placed in a monumental tomb, a masterpiece of High Gothic style, in the South of the cemetery near the main entrance.
