Spice box. Culture: German, Meissen. Dimensions: Overall: 2 1/4 × 4 1/2 × 3 1/8 in. (5.7 × 11.4 × 7.9 cm). Factory: Meissen Manufactory (German, 1710-present). Date: 1730-35. Divided into three compartments, this octagonal box was meant to hold spices, possibly pepper, cloves, and nutmeg. It is decorated with the colors and motifs of Japanese Kakiemon porcelain.
