Baby Face Nelson, American Gangster

Lester Joseph Gillis (December 6, 1908 - November 27, 1934), AKA George Nelson, was an American gangster. "Baby Face" Nelson was born Lester M. Gillis on December 6, 1908, in Chicago, Illinois. He roamed the Chicago streets with a gang of juvenile hoodlums during his early teens. By the age of 14, he was an accomplished car thief and had been dubbed "Baby Face" by members of his gang due to his youthful appearance. His early criminal career included stealing tires, running stills, bootlegging, and armed robbery. He entered into a partnership with John Dillinger, helping him escape from prison during the famed Crown Point, Indiana Jail escape, and was later labeled along with the remaining gang members as public enemy number one. Nelson was responsible for the murder of several people, and killed more FBI agents in the line of duty than any other person - three. Nelson was fatally shot by FBI agents during a shootout called The Battle of Barrington. He was 25 years old.
