Orig. bildtext... BRITISH SCIENTISTS SHARE NOBEL CHEMISTRY PRIZE. A breakthrough in molecular chemistry earned two British scientists a share in this year's Nobel Prize for Chemistry. They are pictured in their laboratory at Cambridge University, England, examining two of the models which aided their research. On the left is Dr. Max Ferdinand Perutz, Director of the National Medical Research Council's Molecular Unit, and on the right, Dr. John Cowdrey Kendrew, deputy Director. Dr. Perutz and Dr. Kendrew led a team of scientists in probing the molecular structure of two globular proteins, myoglobin and haemoglobin - the latter being the pigment of the red blood corpuscles. In jointly winning the 1962 award, these two British scientists bring the number of Nobel Prize winners in their Cambridge laboratory to four. King Gustaf Adolf of Sweden will award Dr. Perutz and Dr. Kendrew a gold medal and diploma each and a share of the £17.740 cash prize in Stockholm on December 10.
