FFI fighters and American parachute troops, France, World War II, 1944.  French Forces of the Interior (FFI) was the formal name given by General Charles de Gaulle to the French Resistance. US Army paratroops from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were among the first Allied troops to land in Normandy on D-Day. The Resistance had been given coded instructions on how to assist the Allies after the landings.
