DESIGNED AND EXECUTED BY DIRCK VELLERT. Martyrdom of the Seven Maccabee Brothers and Their Mother

Martyrdom of the Seven Maccabee Brothers and Their Mother. Artist: Designed and executed by Dirck Vellert (Netherlandish, Amsterdam (?) ca. 1480/85-ca. 1547). Culture: Flemish, Antwerp. Dimensions: Overall: 27 3/4 × 18 1/2 in. (70.5 × 47 cm);
Framed (confirmed): 28 1/2 × 19 5/16 × 5/8 in. (72.4 × 49.1 × 1.6 cm). Date: ca. 1530-35.
As the finesse of this window reveals, Vellert was a great designer who also excelled in the technical craft of glass painting--usually the realms of two distinct professions. Albrecht Dürer's diary of his Netherlandish travels reveals that the two master artists shared social circles, describing an evening hosted by the wealthy and successful Vellert: "Master [Dirck], the Antwerp glass painter, invited me and asked many others to meet me; and among them especially Alexander the goldsmith, a rich, stately man, and we had a costly feast and they did me great honour."
[Elizabeth Cleland, 2017].
