Russo-Japanese War, Portsmouth Peace Treaty, 1905

Entitled: Postcard celebrating the signing of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty. Postcard shows portraits of President Theodore Roosevelt, Czar Nicholas II, the Mikado, Count Sergei Witt, Baron de Rosen, Baron Komura and Baron Takahira, surrounded by other iconographic images. The Russo-Japanese War (1904-05) was fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. The Treaty of Portsmouth formally ended the war. It was signed on September 5, 1905 after negotiations lasting from August 6 to August 30, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, USA. President Theodore Roosevelt was instrumental in the negotiations, and won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
