The late Viscount Amberley, 1876. Eldest son of Earl Russell who twice served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, died of bronchitis aged 33. 'John, Viscount Amberley, M.A., late M.P. for Nottingham, died at Ravenscourt, Trellick, near Monmouth, on the 9th January. His Lordship was born Dec. 10, 1842, the eldest son of Earl Russell, K.G., by Lady Frances Anna Maria, his wife, daughter of Gilbert, second Earl of Minto. He married, Nov. 8, 1864, Katharine Louisa, daughter of Edward John, second Lord Stanley of Alderley, and by her (who died June 28, 1874) leaves surviving issue two sons, John Francis Stanley, bom Aug. 12, 1865, now heir-apparent to his grandfather, Earl Russell, and Bertrand Arthur William, born May 18, 1872. Lord Amberley sat for Nottingham from 1866 to 1868, and advocated extreme Liberal measures'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876.
