Indrajit advances in his chariot having created an illusory Sītā, whom he holds by the single long tress of her hair. He then cuts off her head and her body falls to the ground. Hanumān and the other monkeys, here Sugrīva and Aṅgada, are totally distraught but attack him. Then Hanumān goes to tell Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa of Sītā’s apparent death. They look crushed by grief. Ramayana. Udaipur, c.1653. Source: Add. 15297(1), f.110.
