Torus palatinus

This axial (cross sectional) CT image through the junction of the hard palate and the oral cavity shows the typical appearance of a bony excresence called a torus palatinus. This is a benign, bony protrusion which projects downwards from the hard palate. This is a common finding and many people are aware of this bony projection merely by running their tongue along the roof of their mouth. This is of no clinical concern.
