War Review By Field-Marshal Smuts -- Field-Marshal Smuts making address, behind him can be seen Lord Mayor of London, Sir Samuel Joseph and on the extreme right of ***** is Mrs. Winston Churchill. Field-Marshal Smuts, Premier of South Africa, spoke to-day on the progress of the war at an important meeting in the Guildhall in the City of London. His speech lasted 45 minutes and a recorded broadcast followed the news. He said "the Russian contribution to the war had been immense, and our gratitude and admiration are unbounded, but in justice it should be said there has been no greater event in the war than the success of Allied strategy in the Mediterranean." October 19, 1943.
