Cologne Cathedral was built was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, under the direction of Archbishop Conrad von Hochstaden. Construction of the present Gothic church began in August 15th, 1248 and completed in 1880. In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO world heritage list of culturally important sites. Seen are the jambs sculptures of saints to the left of the portal of Gereon. It was destroyed in world war II and rebuilt in 20th century. Seen are the portal of Gereon jamb sculptures, depicting saints who were active or are venerated in Cologne or in the Rhineland.
