WWII - Eastern Front 1942

The Nazi Propaganda! on the back of the image reads: "A gang was destroyed. In the forest in the back of the image in the middle section of the front, a search was carried out to catch strolling gangs. It was only a few days ago that several villages were alarmed. Spying troops, which went deep into the woods reported that a barn on a great clearing served as a shelter for the gang. From here, they moved out to disturb the villages. The task was to annihilate the gang, particularly because some of the gang members wore parts of German uniforms. Around midnight, the supplies were given and in the morning the infantry issued an attack after artillery preparation. Image from the Eastern Front/Russia, published on 1 October 1942. Since the summer of 1942, the German were not allowed to use the term "partisans" anymore for psychological reasons. Instead, terms like "gangs", "bandits", and "gang combat" were employed. The attack on the Soviet Union by the German Reich was agreed on in July 1940 and prepared as the "Operation Barbarossa" since December 1940. On 22 June 1941, the invasion by the German Wehrmacht started. Photo: Fotoarchiv für Zeitgeschichte/Archiv. 01/10/1942
