Caption:
Nagaoka Gaishi was an army officer in Meiji and Taisho eras. He went to the front in the Sino-Japanese War but remained in the mainland of Japan as Vice Chief of the General Staff during the Russo-Japanese War. He was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1924.
