Munchen, Bavaria, Germany.The Mariensäule (or Column of the Madonna) on the Marienplatz is a statue depicting the Madonna (venerated as Patroness of Bavaria) with the child Jesus with crown and scepter in hand, standing on a crescent moon, all on a red marble column. The column was erected in 1638, after the Thirty Years' War. The golden statue of the Virgin dates back to 1590, and is the work of Hubert Gerhard.
