Joshua Tree Rock Formations

Monzogranite peak breaking up from jointing, mostly vertical. A prominent aplite dike cuts through the top. Spheroidal weathering rounds off and smooths the boulders. This is also an inselberg, a corestone isolated in ages past by deep chemical weathering of the quartz monzogranite. Joshua Tree National Park, California.
