Tecumseh's War, Battle of Tippecanoe,1811

The Battle of Tippecanoe was fought on November 7, 1811, between US forces led by William Henry Harrison and Native American warriors led by Tecumseh. Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa were leaders of a confederacy from various tribes that opposed US expansion into Native territory. Harrison marched with an army of 1,000 men to disperse the confederacy's headquarters at Prophetstown (Tippecanoe). Tecumseh was away recruiting allies and Tenskwatawa was in charge. Harrison camped near Prophetstown and arranged to meet with Tenskwatawa the following day. The next morning, warriors attacked Harrison's army, but they stood their ground and the Natives were repulsed. Engraving based on painting by Alonzo Chappel, 1859 (cropped and cleaned).
