William Tell shooting an apple off the head of his own child. William Tell is a Swiss folk hero of Switzerland. According to legend, Tell was an expert mountain climber and marksman with a crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical reeve. Tell's defiance and tyrannicide marked the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy, of which Tell is considered the founding father.
