Amateur Photographer, 1917

Editorial use only . Young girl taking a Kodak picture of her doll. Kodak was founded by George Eastman and Henry A. Strong on September 4, 1888. During most of the 20th century, Kodak held a dominant position in photographic film. The company's ubiquity was such that its Kodak moment tagline entered the common lexicon to describe a personal event that was demanded to be recorded for posterity. An amateur photographer may take photographs for pleasure and to record an event, emotion, place, as a person without a monetary motivation. An amateur may make considerable sums entering work in contests for prize money or through occasional inclusion of their work in magazines or the archive of a photo agency. H. T. Mitchell, May 24, 1917.
