Second Treaty of San Ildefonso (18 August 1796). Treaty of offensive and defensive alliance, concluded between Spain and France. Ratified by King Charles IV of Spain on 14 October of that year. The agreement between revolutionary France and Spain obliged both nations to provide mutual military aid in the event of war with England. Manuel Godoy, on the Spanish side, and General Catherine-Dominique de Pérignon, on behalf of the French Directory, signed the treaty. Articles I, II and III.
