FRANCESCO DE MURA. 'Sisygambis...Mistakes Hephistion (Hephaestion) for Alexander the Great', 18th century. Artist: Mura, Francesco de

FRANCESCO DE MURA. 'Sisygambis, Mother of Darius III, Mistakes Hephistion (Hephaestion) for Alexander the Great', 18th century. After Alexander's (356-323 BC) defeat of the Persian King Darius III (died 331 BC), Darius's womenfolk were taken to Alexander's tent. Sisigambis speaks to Hephaistion who is the most imposing figure in the group, thinking he is Alexander who is, in fact, the shorter figure.
