The Lazar House 1795. A lazar house is a quarantined house or hospital for people with infectious diseases, especially leprosy. William Blake (November 28, 1757 - August 12, 1827) was an English poet, painter, engraver and printmaker. Though largely unrecognised during his lifetime, today Blake's work is almost universally considered that of a genius.
