John Archer (1863-1932). He was not the first black mayor in Britain, but was, however, the first to be elected in London, and the first to attract so much attention. The son of a ship's steward from Barbados, he was part of the already well-established black population in Liverpool. John Archer was elected Mayor for the period November 1913 to November 1914. .
