An Italian patriot checks his machine gun while three of his comrades, also heavily armed, stand by and converse in the liberated communications center of Loiano. Patriots played a major part in freeing the town, which was completely cleared of the enemy by the Allied Fifth Army under U.S. Lieutenant General Mark W. Clark on Oct. 6, 1944.
