Helmet. Culture: Crimean or South Russian. Dimensions: H. including mail 22 1/4 in. (56.5 cm); H. excluding mail 5 1/4 in. (15.9 cm); Diam. 7 1/8 in. (18.1 cm); Wt. 3 lb. 13.4 oz. (1740.7 g). Date: dated A.H. 1223/A.D. 1808-9. The Arabic inscriptions include the names of the maker and the owner, the latter apparently a descendant of the ruling house of the Crimean Tartars.
