California: c. 1930 Medicine men taught their songs and dances to young boys chosen to carry on the traditions of the tribe. This Yokut medicine man is playing his split clap sticks by shaking them in time to his song. The dancing costume is a skirt of eagle down tipped with red-tailed hawk feathers. The hat is a basket decorated with eagle down, and raven and magpie feathers.
