Shock unit, 1970. Unconscious patient being fitted with a respirator in a medical shock unit. The respirator will help the man to breathe. The patient has received electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), also known as electroshock therapy. Electric shocks are used to induce seizures as a treatment for severe depressive illness.
