Samuel John Gurney Hoare, Viscount Templewood, British Conservative politician, 1929. Known as Sir Samuel Hoare until 1944 when he was created Viscount Templewood, Hoare (1880-1959) held the positions of Secretary of State for Air (1922-1924 and 1924-1929), Secretary of State for India (1931-1935), Foreign Secretary (1935) and Ambassador to Spain (1940-1944).
