George W. Carver, American Botanist

George Washington Carver (1864-1943) was an African-American scientist, botanist, educator, and inventor born into slavery. His reputation is based on his research and promotion of alternative crops to cotton, such as peanuts, soybeans, and sweet potatoes. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops as a source of their own food and to improve their quality of life. Nicholas Panesis circa 1935-43 (cropped and cleaned).
