NOLI ME TANGERE

Noli Me Tangere. Culture: Italian, Florence or Siena. Dimensions: L. 75 1/2 x W. 10 1/4 inches (191.8 x 26.0 cm). Date: early 15th century. The textile depicts Christ immediately after the Resurrection at the moment when he is recognized by Mary Magdalene. This repeating design may have been used as a decorative border or apparel for a dalmatic. One half of a dalmatic made entirely of this fabric is in the collection of the Musée des Tissus in Lyon, France.
