The funeral of Count Folke Bernadotte, Gustav Vasa Church, Stockholm, Sweden, 1948. Vice-president of the Swedish Red Cross, Count Folke Bernadotte (1895-1948) negotiated for the release of over 30,000 prisoners from German concentration and prisoner-of-war camps in World War II. He became the United Nation Security Councils' mediator after the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1947-1948. He was assassinated, along with UN observer Colonel André Serot, in Jerusalem on 17 September 1948 by members of the Zionist extremist 'Stern Gang'.
