Glossopteris Fossil

Glossopteris, a bushy pteridosperm (seed fern) that flourished during the Permian Period. The leaves are characterized by thin veins that curve out from the central leaf axis. This specimen, from Adamstown in Australia, shows a number of leaves flattened out on a bedding plane. Found all over the Southern Hemisphere, Glossopteris fossils were used to reconstruct the ancient supercontinent of Gondwanaland.
