Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, Ravenna. In the apse, mosaic representing the Transfiguration, Saint Apollinaris decorating it, Moses and the prophet Elijah on each side. On the arch, the representation of the holy cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, from which the apostles symbolized by lambs emerge. Above, on the frieze, a representation of Christ in a medallion, framed by the symbols of the four Evangelists.. 6th century.. Built in the 6th century, the basilica was consecrated in 549 by Bishop Maximianus of Ravenna and dedicated to Apollinaris, first Bishop of Ravenna.
