Chinese Acu-moxa Point Chart, 1869

Acu-moxa point chart, showing the huantiao (Jumping in a Circle) point, from Chuanwu lingji lu (Record of Sovereign Teachings), by Zhang Youheng, a treatise on acu-moxa in two volumes. This work survives only in a manuscript draft, completed in 1869 (8th year of the Tongzhi reign period of the Qing dynasty). The text states: The huantiao point is found on the thigh, in the muscle behind the great trochanter. It is located with the patient lying on the side with the thigh flexed. It can be needled to a depth of 1 cun, and moxibusted with three moxa cones. It is indicated for one-sided paralysis; wind-damp joint pain; muscular stiffness and tightness in the whole body; stiff neck; back pain due to sudden sprain or strain; aches in the lower limbs, etc.
