Bardeen, Shockley and Brattain, 1948

John Bardeen (1908-1991), William Shockley (1910-1989), and Walter H. Brattain (1902-1987) (left to right) shown at Bell telephone laboratories in 1948 with an apparatus used in the early investigations which led to the invention of the transistor. These men won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for the invention of the transistor.
