Balaam and the Angel.

A woodcut engraving depicting Balaam and the Angel. Balaam, an Old Testament prophet and diviner, was ordered by Balak, King of the Moabites, to curse the Israelites. Chided by his ass (bitten by it according to some accounts) for entertaining such an evil idea, he blessed the Israelites instead. Dated 16th century.
