Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of human testis nucleus in prophase of meiosis I, the pairing of homologous chromosomes. Synaptonemal complex is visible as a tri-partite 'strand' in the centre of the nucleus. Note also prominent nucleolus. Magnification 7000x.
